QUAKER PEACE & SOCIAL WITNESS

Burundi Peaceworkers

Quaker Peace & Social Witness has exciting new openings for two peaceworkers to be placed in Burundi from September 2008 for one year.

You will be based with the American Friends Service Committee in Bujumbura, and you will spend the year in one of two roles, supporting local community groups who are building peace in Burundi:

1) Policy and Advocacy Worker: supporting grassroots groups in developing their advocacy expertise and connecting with policy makers.

2) Partners’ Institutional Capacity Worker: working with local groups to improve their peacebuilding projects by encouraging learning and monitoring.

These posts are open to anyone committed to the values of the Religious Society of Friends.  You must be adaptable, culturally sensitive, a French-speaker and able to work as part of a small team and on your own initiative.  Transferable skills in administration and communication are essential, as is a desire to develop your career in the field of peace and conflict transformation. A modest maintenance and housing allowance will be provided.
